About Me
I have been a storyteller since I was a child growing up in the barrio of a small town in Orange County, CA.
My junior high years were spent as a reporter for the school newspaper and anchoring the pilot broadcast program.
The high school years exposed me to field journalism, interviewing city leaders, and provided the opportunity to meet one of my role models, the educator Jaime Escalante.
During my early college years, I stepped out of my comfort zone and learned about podcasting, radio hosting, photography, and blogging.
In my last years of college, I discovered digital storytelling, which changed everything. Being exposed to recording, editing, and combining photography or graphics altered my storytelling.
My publications can be found in Rocky Mountain PBS, Yellow Scene Magazine, The Metropolitan, The Talon, and Denver Urban Spectrum. The Social Podcast can be found on iHeartRadio, and I recently started a blog on Medium.
Recently, I won an award from the Society of Professional Journalists Top of the Rockies, First Place for Large Newsroom, News Reporting, Single Story in 2022.
I have a BA in Journalism from MSU Denver with a focus on multimedia. I am a member of the Society of Professional Journalists and the Indigenous Journalists Association.
